You must have heard about how drinking green tea regularly is good for your overall health. But did you know that green tea’s got amazing benefits for the skin as well? Struggling with puffy eyes? Use green tea bags under your eyes. Over-exfoliation led to irritated skin? Put on a green tea sheet mask!
Green tea that’s used in skincare products is made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant, the same plant used to produce the tea you drink. It is loaded with antioxidants, anti-inflammatory compounds, and other nutrients that can work wonders for your skin!
Benefits of Green Tea for Skin
- Reduces Inflammation: Green tea is rich in polyphenols, specifically catechins, which are known for their anti-inflammatory properties. These help calm irritation, redness, swelling, and itching.
- Clears Clogged Pores: When dead skin cells, oil, and sweat accumulate, your pores can get clogged. This can lead to issues like blackheads, whiteheads, and acne. Green tea helps clear the pores, as it cleanses deeply and prevents further buildup.
- Treats Acne: Green tea is a highly effective remedy for acne, thanks to its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties. The polyphenols in green tea target bacterial membranes, reducing infections that contribute to breakouts.
- Hydrates & Repairs Skin: Green tea comes packed with the goodness of vitamin E, which makes it a great source of hydration and nourishment. And, it also helps repair damage caused by environmental stressors such as pollution.
- Controls Oil Production: The biomolecules in green tea interact with the skin’s amino acids to regulate sebum production, helping to reduce excess oil on the surface and minimizing its production at the cellular level.
Innisfree Green Tea Range

I tried out the minis of the Innisfree Green Tea range sometime back and instantly fell in love with it. Both products are loaded with green tea probiotics and hyaluronic acid, which offer several skin benefits.
Innisfree Green Tea Seed Toner
The toner is quite lightweight and has a runny consistency. It quickly gets absorbed into the skin, making it dewy, hydrated and plump. While it can be used with a cotton pad too, I prefer using it directly on my skin.
Innisfree Green Tea Seed Moisturiser
This Innisfree moisturiser is thick and creamy but gets absorbed into the skin beautifully. Even though it has a thick texture, it does not feel greasy on the skin and suits my combination skin quite well!
Both the green tea toner and moisturiser work well keep my skin hydrated throughout the day. Over time, these reduced the redness and irritation on my skin caused by over-exfoliation.
Is Green Tea worth the hype?
Green tea is undoubtedly a powerhouse ingredient when it comes to skincare. Offering several benefits from reducing inflammation and treating acne to providing hydration and unclogging pores, green tea in skincare will suit all skin types.
